Substructures of finite classical polar spaces


Time: 15:00-16:00 of May 12, May 14, May 16, May 18 and May 20


In this series of talks, I will first give an introduction to finite classical polar spaces, and then focus on some particular substructures in them. The main topic in consideration will be intriguing sets. I will describe some standard geometric construction techniques,  explain how to make use of the subgroup structure of the associated classical groups, and demonstrate how algebraic number theory plays a role with a properly chosen model. I will end the talks by listing some long-standing open problems on this topics.
