May 30, 2023

The finals of the 14th National College Students Mathematical Competition, sponsored by the Chinese Mathematical Society (CMS), was recently held at the Guangdong University of Technology (GDUT).

Four undergraduate students of the Mathematics Honor Class from the Department of Mathematics at SUSTech participated in the finals and won awards.

The finals were divided into three categories: a senior group and junior group for mathematics majors, and a group for non-mathematics majors.

Undergraduate students Rongming YIN and Antong ZHU won the first and second prizes in the senior group, respectively. At the same time, Xiaowei LI and Zetu CHEN won the second prize in the junior group.

This is also the first time that students from SUSTech have won the first prize in the competition, marking a historical breakthrough in participating in the finals.

Among the award-winning students, Rongming YIN has stood out in several domestic and international mathematics competitions. He won the second prize in the 13th National College Students Mathematics Competition (Guangdong Division), the first prize at the 29th International Mathematics Competition for University Students (IMC2022), and the first prize in the 14th National College Students Mathematics Competition (Guangdong Division).

The first National College Students Mathematical Competition was held in October 2009, and this year’s final is the 14th in a row, organized by GDUT and the Guangdong Mathematical Society.

More than 230,000 students from 32 different regions around China participated in the preliminary rounds of the competition, with 922 students progressing to the finals.
