SUSTC Undergraduates Get Good Results in the 7th Chinese Mathematics Competitions (Guangdong Station)

Today, the results of the 7th Chinese Mathematics Competitions (Guangdong Station) for 2015 were revealed. 19 students from SUSTC attended CMC and it was the first time for SUCTC to be seen in it. Liu Hao and Du Lixin from SUSTC, who were enrolled in 2013, received the First Prize in Mathematics in CMC (Guangdong Station). Wang Yakun won the Second Prize. In the non-mathematics competition, Jiang Xuance, who was enrolled in 2014, won the First Prize; Chen Wanli, Lu Zheng, Chen Hong and Xu Dehao won the Second Prize; Huang Renke, Xu Ziqing, Wu Runhua and Hu Xuchong won the Third Prize. Liu Hao from SUSTC Department of Mathematics won the right to attend the CMC national competition in mathematics. As far as we know, the award-winning rate in CMC is 15% (the rate of winning Third Prize and above), making it a senior-level national competition of disciplines. And SUSTC contestants get the award-winning rate of 63%.

CMC, hosted by the Chinese Mathematical Society, is the highest-level competition in fundamental discipline of mathematics for the college students. First held in 2009, CMC is an annual event designed to stimulate the college students’ interest in mathematics, push forward reform and building of mathematics courses in institutions of higher learning, improve teaching level of college mathematics courses, develop the college students’ ability to analyze and solve problems, identify the innovative talents in mathematics and provide a stage for the college students to show up their fundamental knowledge and thinking ability.
