Hearing the shape of a drum revisited

Abstract

A famous inverse problem posed by M Kac 'Can one hear the shape of a drum?' is concerned with isospectrality of a drum. The first counterexample was constructed by Gordon, Webb and Wolpert (1992 Invent. Math. 110 1). In this talk we shall further discuss this inverse problem and show that the shape of a convex drumhead can be uniquely recovered from time-dependent acoustic wave signals recorded at multiple sensors that are located around the drum. Some numerical examples will also be shown.
