Abstract

In this talk, we will report our current research on topological data analysis. The talk will consist of three sections. In the first section, we give a brief introduction to topological data analysis. Then, in the second section, we will give a report on the current progress of topological approach to drug design and discovery in the world. In the last section, we give a report on our works.

About the speaker

Jie Wu is a Distinguished Professor (full time) at Hebei Normal University.  Prof. Wu received his Ph.D. from the University of Rochester in 1995, followed by positions at UC Berkeley (1995–96), U. Toronto (1996–97), and U. Penn. (1997–99).  In 1999, he joined the National University of Singapore as an Assistant Professor, and was subsequently promoted to Associate Professor with tenure in 2004 and to tenured Professor in 2009.  In 2019, he returned to China as a full-time professor.  Prof. Wu received the National Science Award of Singapore in 2007, an overseas joint grant (Distinguished Young Scholars B) from the National Natural Science Foundation of China in 2014, and the High-Caliber Talent Program of Hebei Province in 2019.  Prof. Wu’s main research areas are algebraic topology and applied topology.  He uncovered fundamental connections between homotopy groups and the theory of braids, and between homotopy theory of loop spaces and modular representation theory of symmetric groups.  His over 80 research works have been published in distinguished scientific journals including the Journal of the AMS.
