From Projection and Contraction methods for Variational Inequalities to Splitting Contraction Methods for Convex Optimization

讲座摘要:

In the last decade, we published some splitting contraction methods for solving linearly constrained convex optimization. These methods are effectively applied to solving the large optimization problems arising from image processing, machine learning and other applied computation areas. In practice, the splitting contraction methods are closely related to our previous research work on the projection and contraction methods for monotone variational inequalities. This talk will give an overview on our research process. Our achievements show that only simple methods can be favored by the engineering community. Scholars in related fields say that our articles are easy to read. The only mathematical background required is the basic concepts of calculus and linear algebra.


个人简介:

何炳生,1966年高中毕业后回乡务农,南京大学数学系 77 级学生,本科毕业后公派去联邦德国留学,取得维尔茨堡大学博士学位后回国在南京大学数学系任教。1997年晋升为南京大学教授,2015年加入南方科技大学。江苏省有突出贡献的中青年专家,享受国务院特殊津贴。
长期从事运筹学和计算数学的交叉学科 -- 最优化理论与方法的研究。2001年独立获得江苏省科技进步一等奖。最近五年,获得《中国运筹学会科学技术奖》运筹研究奖、首届《江苏省工业与应用数学学会》突出贡献奖,《教育部科学研究优秀成果》自然科学二等奖。代表性(算法)成果除了被国内研究单位成功应用于求解其他方法解决不了的工程问题,也被美国 Stanford,UCLA, UC Berkeley 等大学的美国科学院院士、工程院院士和连续多届世界数学家大会邀请报告人在论文中大篇幅实质性引用。
