1. Introduction

The Global Mathematics Young Scholars Forum hosted by the Department of Mathematics of Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) aims to provide a common platform for Mathematics young scholars to present their best research outcomes, exchange their research ideas and discuss their ambition of contributing to the development of a world-class Mathematics department at SUSTech. Through this Forum, we wish to select and recruit outstanding researchers who share our vision and ambition to become a world-class Mathematics department.

3. Recruiting Categories

Young Faculty (Associate / Assistant professor) Under the age of 40. Doctoral degree obtained from internationally renowned universities and institutes; or Ph.D. degrees from Chinese universities and more than 36 months of overseas work experience, with a formal teaching or research position in famous overseas universities and research institutes.

6. Qualifications and Benefits

1) What We Will Support

Research startup funds：A maximum of  CNY 4 million in research funding is provided by local government and the university within 5 years.

Additional support:  At least 1 PhD student per year fully paid by the university and unlimited numbers of post-doctoral fellows partially subsidized by the university. Additional research assistant professors (RAPs), research scholars and research assistants hired by the faculty member her/himself.

2) Remuneration

Salary: Globally competitive salary (one of the best in the sector); Preferential policy of individual income tax, income tax of qualified high-level talents will be compensated by local government to a maximum of 15% for qualified candidates.

Insurances: Shenzhen’s highest level of retirement insurance, medical insurance, unemployment insurance, industrial injury insurance, maternity insurance and housing provident funds. And provide commercial supplementary medical insurance and high-level commercial medical insurance.

Subsidy: The university will assist in applying for the corresponding talent programs according to the national, provincial and municipal talent policies. Successful personnel will receive the relevant program funding / reward.

Housing: Temporary on-campus apartments provided or subsidies to support off-campus rental housing.

Other benefits: Permanent residence or resident visa service for scholars and family (spouse and children);Service of children’s education in SUSTech affiliated preschool, primary school and middle school.

About the Department

Founded in June 2015, the Department of Mathematics’ research covers three major directions: pure mathematics, computational and applied mathematics, probability and financial mathematics, enveloping algebra, geometry, topology, combinatorics, number theory, algebraic geometry, analysis, dynamical system, PDEs, mathematical physics, probability, computational mathematics, applied mathematics, and financial mathematics etc.

All tenured and tenure-track faculty members have had multiple years of teaching and/or research experiences outside mainland China. They have been invited to speak at major international conferences such as ICM, obtained distinguished honors such as membership to the Chinese Academy of Sciences, National Science Awards, and Guggenheim Fellowships. Our faculty members also serve on the editorial boards of more than 50 international research journals.

Members of the department have received more than 70 research grants, including more than 50 national-level ones. The mathematics program has been recognized as one of the most promising programs by the provincial government in 2018, and by the national government in 2020. In addition, the National Center for Applied Mathematics Shenzhen (NaCAMS) was established in 2020.

The Department is committed to a world-class educational experience for our students. We offer two undergraduate programs:  Financial Math and Math & Applied Math, as well as a graduate program that covers almost all fields of mathematics. In addition, the department also offers joint doctoral programs with a few top overseas and Hong Kong/Macao universities providing prospective students with extra opportunities.
