Abstract: Quantum Topology was born out of Vaughan Jones's discovery of the Jones polynomial of a knot in 1985. I will give a historical introduction to the subject along with some recent developments emphasizing its connections with mathematical physics, hyperbolic geometry, 3,4-dimensional topology, number theory and combinatorics.
